Hayti man's body found in Blytheville; one arrested

Blytheville police have identified the body found Wednesday near the Senior Citizens pond as 37-year-old Cedric Winters of Hayti.

Missouri authorities have made an arrest in the case, according to Capt. John Frazier, the Blytheville Police Department CID commander.

According to Frazier, around 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, officers of the Blytheville Police Department responded to the Senior Citizens pond located on Hwy 239 Spur and I55, finding a body near the pond. "On arrival officers found the body of a deceased black male later identified as 37 year old Cedric Winters of Hayti Mo," Frazier said in a press release. "The body showed signs of trauma and officers suspected foul play. After processing the scene, detectives of the Blytheville Criminal Investigation Division went to Hayti to begin an investigation into his death."

"Blytheville detectives partnered with local Hayti Police and Missouri Highway Patrol officers," he continued. "Their investigation resulted in a confession from a Hayti resident who admitted that he killed Winters in Missouri and transported him to Blytheville where he disposed of his body. This individual was taken into custody by Missouri officials. The Blytheville Police Department has a very talented group of officers with a reputation of professionalism and for working well with other agencies. No charges have been sought by the Blytheville Police Department at this time as the investigation continues."
