DOROTHY ANDERSON WADE

Dorothy Anderson Wade was born in Needmore, MO to Nelli Hickman and Early Anderson on October 26, 1922. She departed this life March 22, 2018 at the Pemiscot Nursing Home in Hayti at the age of 95.

She was a faithful member of Cedar Street Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and participated in other church activities for many, many years. She was a member of the Blanche B. Hill Court #43 Heroines of Jericho, Central Star Chapter #114 Order of Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliation.

Her civic involvements included Delta Sigma Theta, Heart Health Coalition, American Legion Auxiliary, Retired Teachers Association, Pemiscot Initiative Network, and RSVP where she served as a board member on the last two.

Her teaching career began in Maplewood and Micola in the Steele district. From there she came to Hayti where she retired. Collectively she taught for 47 years.

She was preceded in death by parents, her siblings, Hazel, Ethel Mae, Juanita, Roscoe, Theodore, Wiley, and Marvin and her husband, Clarence of 66 years.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Tamara (Robert) of Hayti, two grandchildren, Tameika (Jeremiah) of Cape Girardeau, MO, Terence (Tamara) of Leesburg, VA, and one great-grandson, Jeremiah (L.J.) of Cape Girardeau and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family wishes to thank the employees and staff of the Pemiscot Memorial Nursing Center for their care and support.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 31, 2018 at noon for Dorothy Anderson Wade at the Cedar St. Missionary Baptist Church in Hayti with Rev. Bobby Patterson officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Hayti.

Active pallbearers were Roy Martin, Valce Stewart, William Townson, Aamie Jones, Willie Joe Jones, and Darren Jones. Honorary pallbearers were Gene Whitaker, Archie Robinson, Leon Thompson, Alex Cooper, Ronnie Lockridge, Mike Cooper, Ronnie Nelson, Richard Presberry, and Randy McDaniel.
