Wildcats tame Senath-Hornersville Lions

The Cooter middle school basketball team headed west to Hornersville last Tuesday, Nov. 7 to take on the Senath-Hornersville Lions. The Wildcats flexed some muscle and dominated the Lions, controlling the tempo, playing exceptional defense and draining numerous impressive baskets, including six 3-point shots. Cooter would go on to grab a good 51-26 win over the Lions.

To the Lions’ credit, they played well at times, especially the first quarter. At the end of the first period Cooter was up on the Lions by only three points, 12-9. However, the Wildcats caught fire in the second frame and never looked back. Going into the locker room, Cooter had extended the lead to 29-16.

In the third quarter, Senath-Hornersville stepped up the defensive pressure and cut the lead to 10 points, 30-20.

By quarter’s end, however, Cooter had regained complete control of the contest and commanded a stout 37-22 lead. The game ended in a 51-26 victory for the Wildcats.

Leading the ‘Cats in scoring was Jackson Coppedge with 12 points. Dylan Riley knocked down 11 points, including six from beyond the arc. Carson Swan poured in nine points, and Rhoads Lynn drained nine as well, with two 3-point shots. Luke Barnes sank two 3-pointers for six points, while Tommy Tuberville and Jace Flippo tossed in two points each for Cooter.
