QUILLAR MAE RUFF ROBINSON

Wednesday, September 27, 2017

Quillar Mae Ruff Robinson, 93, of Hayti, passed away peacefully at her home on September 8, 2017. She was born August 30, 1924 in Charleston, MO, the daughter of John Anthony and Ossie V. (Williams) Ruff. Her parents moved her and her siblings to Mississippi where she attended elementary school. She accepted Christ at an early age, and she belonged to the Cedar Street Baptist Church in Hayti, MO at the time of her passing.

She married Walter Robinson, Sr. on June 30, 1940. To this union, 15 were born. Though she raised them from very humble beginnings, Quillar Mae made sure that her children were never short on love. She instilled morals and values in her children that lasted through 5 generations. Despite only completing the fourth grade, she preached the importance of education. From her lineage came 5 Master’s Degrees, 7 Bachelor’s Degrees, 3 Associate Degrees, dozens of High School Diplomas, and 5 Nurses. Praise God!

Quillar Mae loved her family dearly, and she was always there when they needed her. She helped so many others who she considered family as well. Quillar Mae enjoyed fishing and traveling. She spent much of her years visiting Aurora, IL, where most of her children reside. She was particularly fond of “salt water” pearls as she called them. Many believe pearls to be symbolic of a virtuous woman which she was indeed!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Robinson Sr., her father and mother, John and Ossie Ruff, four children, John Robinson Sr., Maxine Lyles, Larry Robinson, and Wanda Robinson (in infancy) and 6 grandchildren.

Quillar Mae leaves to cherish her memory and love, 11 children: 6 daughters, Shirley Pierce, Pearl (Willie) Shepard, Quince Newman, Betty Robinson, and Patricia Robinson of Aurora, IL and Brenda Harris of Hayti, 5 sons, Walter Robinson Jr. of Caruthersville, Bruce (Johnanna) Robinson of Kennett, Wayne Robinson of Aurora, IL, Gary (Juanita) Robertson of Marietta, GA, and Fredrick Robinson of Hayti, 189 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, one sister, Louise Tatum of Hayti, 3 sisters-in-law, Lila Ruff and Brenda Ruff of Hayti, MO and Eloise Ruff of Collinsville, MS, and dear friends Irene Landfair and Joyce Eubanks of Hayti.

Funeral services were held Friday, September 15, 2017 at noon at the Friday Temple COGIC in Hayti with Pastor Darion Thomas officiating.

Burial followed in the Homestown Cemetery of Wardell, MO.

John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti in charge of services.
