Lady Mustangs defeat Hayti in two sets
In a rare Wednesday afternoon game, the North Pemiscot volleyball teams hosted the Hayti Lady Indians Sept. 13. The varsity Lady Mustangs continued on their winning ways and remained undefeated by beating Hayti in two sets, 25-11, 25-11.
North Pemiscot came out of the gate in full-throttle mode, led by Tara Davis’ serves. En route to their 6-0 early lead, Kayla Kuehler attacked with a pair of spikes. The Lady Mustangs cruised to a 10-3 lead paced by a couple of aces from Heriyn Ellis and powerful hits from Mika Hattiex and Kueuhler.
Always a bright spot for Hayti, Quameria Johnson answered with a string of strong serves, which included a pair of aces, cutting the Lady Indians’ deficit to three points, 11-8. Hattiex helped get the momentum back for North Pemiscot with several kills and outstanding serves.
The Lady Mustangs then went on a scoring rampage led by Kuehler and a Hailey McGowan kill, giving North Pemiscot a 22-10 lead. North Pemiscot would go on to take the set, 25-11.
In the second game, North Pemiscot went up by four early on, 5-1. Kayla Kuehler continued her excellent play, recording several kills. Hailey Curtright smashed the ball for a point, and she had an ace to boot. North Pemiscot would easily take the set, 25-11, and the match.
The Lady Mustangs also won the junior varsity match, defeating Hayti in straight sets, 25-6, 25-15. Leading the jayvee North Pemiscot squad in kills were Brianna James, Jayden Hunter and Abigail Grissom. Serving up the most aces were Hunter, Grissom, James and Angel Miller.
