South Pemiscot to raise money for hurricane relief

Wednesday, September 13, 2017

The South Pemiscot High School SAC and Honor Society will be raising money for hurricane relief. “We are doing a class Coin War to raise money for hurricane relief,” said Mellissa Carter, one of the event’s organizers. “Each class will have a jar to deposit coins into. The coins have a point value based on the denomination of the coin. For example, a nickel is worth five points and so on. Classes are to fill their jars with coins. Others can put paper money in their jars to take away points - $1 would take away 100 points, $5 - 500 points and so on.”

Organizers say the community may also participate and contribute toward the relief fund. “It would be great if the community would like to participate and drop coins (or paper money) into class jars. We will be taking coins until 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19.”
