Bulldogs beat Neelyville, Senath, Twin Rivers

The South Pemiscot Bulldogs (5-7 as of Sept. 11) got a big fall baseball win over Neelyvlle, defeating the Tigers 14-0 Friday, Sept. 1. Pacing the Bulldogs at the plate was Colton McCulloch with two hits. Colton Golden and Luke Southern each had a double, while Kevin Burton added a single for South Pemiscot. On the mound, Ryan Russell pitched five stellar innings of one-hit ball, striking out 11.

Earlier in the day on Sept. 1, the ‘Dogs suffered a tough 10-3 loss to Ellington. In the batter’s box, Keith Guyton recorded a triple and Kevin Burton a double, as Colton McCulloch and Colton Golden added a single each for South Pemiscot. As for pitching duties, Burton got the starting nod, throwing 5 2/3 innings. He stuck out six, but gave up eight earned runs off seven hits. Ashton Thompson closed, fanning one batter.

On Friday, Sept. 8, South Pemiscot defeated Senath-Hornersville, taming the Lions 6-1. Kevin Burton smacked a triple, Ryan Russell a double and Colton McCulloch a single. Going the entire seven innings was Ryan Russell, who struck out eight batters and allowed one earned run off three hits.

South Pemsicot beat Twin Rivers 19-12 Saturday, Sept. 10. Kevin Burton led the way in hitting for the Bulldogs with a triple and two doubles. Keith Guyton and Ross Russell slugged a double and single each, while Ryan Russell swatted two singles. Colton McCulloch slapped a double, and Blake Romhilt, Colton Golden and Harley Baxter smacked a single apiece. Ross Russell was the starter on the mound, throwing three innings of four-hit ball and giving up one earned run while recording one K. Grant Payne put in an inning of work, giving up six earned runs off three hits. Axel Moreno served as the ‘Dogs’ closer, pitching three innings and fanning three batters. Moreno surrendered three hits but no earned runs.

In their second game Sept. 9, South Pemiscot fell to Cooter 16-3. In the batter’s box, Colton McCulloch ripped a double and Keith Guyton and Blake Romhilt had one hit apiece for the Bulldogs. As for pitching duties, Kevin Burton got the start, tossing 2 1/3 innings of two-hit ball, fanning three batters while surrendering four earned runs. Ashton Thompson pitched the final three frames, giving up eight hits and three earned runs.
