North Pem stings Hornets in straight sets

The North Pemiscot Lady Mustangs took on the Holcomb Lady Hornets in volleyball action Thursday night, Aug. 24 at the North Pemiscot gym. In the varsity game, North Pemiscot put on a dominating performance, defeating Holcomb 25-12, 25-13. Kayla Kuehler sent a few hard shots over the net, including a blistering spike to give North Pemiscot an 18-9 first-set lead. Kuehler continued making short order of the Hornets with a series of powerful serves too hot to handle for the Lady Hornets to return.

The Lady Mustangs’ impressive performance continued in the second set with Hailey McGowan rattling off a string of hard-hit serves, helping North Pemiscot capture an 18-9 lead. Powerhouse twins, Liyah and Mika Hattiex, came alive as well in the second frame, dominating the net, with Mika putting an exclamation point on the win with a vicious match-ending spike.

The junior varsity game was competitive, and several JV Lady Mustangs showed their volleyball chops, including Brianna James with a number of hard-hit spikes, Abigail Grissom with outstanding returns and digs and Jayden Hunter with excellent defense. However, when the final point was recorded, North Pemiscot fell short in this match, 25-19, 20-25, 25-19.
