With the start of school comes the start of football season. Opening the season, the Caruthersville Tigers hosted the Portageville Bulldogs. The Tigers started the scoring rampage early outscoring the Portageville Bulldogs by a score of 69-34 before the night was over.

The first Tiger touchdown came within two minutes of starting the game when #21, Deandre Davis ran 26 yards for the first score of the game. Davis was almost stopped short, but hurdled over a Bulldog defender to make the first touchdown. With the ensuing point after, Tigers made short work of the Bulldog offense and regained the ball quickly. Deandre Davis again made a quick run for the second touchdown of the quarter. The first quarter saw Quarterback, #3, Charles Golliday, throw to Wide Receivers, #5, Bryce Strawn and #9, Dundi Hamilton, for touchdowns. Deandre Davis made nearly 150 yards of rushing in the first quarter alone. The Bulldogs, #10, Ian Torey, managed one touchdown and a two-point conversion. The first quarter saw the Tigers lead Portageville by a score of 35-8.

Coach Jackson sent out fresh players and the Tigers continued to dominate into the second quarter. Golliday threw to his wide receivers and running backs who made runs into the end zone for touchdowns. Wide Receivers, #5, Bryce Strawn and #5, Chris Smith, and Running Back, #27 Demarco Slaughter made it into the end zone in the second quarter. The Bulldogs started picking up points as well, with a nice run by #32, Lamar Alexander picking up a touch down for his team. By the end of the first half, the Tigers had a 62-14 lead.

First run by Deandre Davis resulting in first Tiger touchdown.

The second half went more quickly with both teams making it into the end zone. In the third quarter, the Tigers gained two more touchdowns, to one gained by Portageville. Dundi Hamilton made a 40+ yard run, which resulted in one of the 3rd quarter Tiger Touchdowns. The fourth quarter saw Portageville score two more times. Unfortunately, the damage done in the first half was too much for Portageville to overcome. The final score: Caruthersville 69- Portageville 34.

Coach Jackson said he was proud of the work his team for the opener. Even with a good start and many players getting some play time, Coach Jackson indicates he wants to work on some things in preparation for the game against Malden next week in Malden.
