JAMES VAN CAFFEY

James Van Caffey, 70, of Memphis, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017, in Memphis. He was born Jan. 14, 1947, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., to James Yancy Caffey and Alma Jean Gibbs Caffey. He was a graduate of South Pemiscot High School class of 1965. His parents built Caffey’s Supermarket in Steele in the late ‘60s, and he was the produce manager. He was past president of the Kiwanis Club in Steele. At the time of his death, he was working for Fred’s in their corporate office as a Plan-A-Gram Coordinator Specialist.

Mr. Caffey was preceded in death by his parents, James Yancy Caffey and Alma Jean Gibbs Caffey.

Survivors of Mr. Caffey include one daughter, Melaine Zeigler and her husband, Scott, of Mankato, Minn.; one sister, Pam Savage and her husband, David, of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; two grandsons, Stad Zeigler of Bronx, N.Y., and Hayden Zeigler of Mankato, Minn.; three nieces, Tracy Nabors and Mike, Jeneane Moore and Johnny and Kristen Travis and Jason, and one great-niece and nephew, J.D. and Catherine.

Services for Mr. Caffey were held at Memorial Graveside Pemiscot Memorial Gardens with Rev. John Earl Dunavant officiating. Interment followed.

Powell Funeral Home of Steele was in charge of arrangements.
