Rae Aileen Michie

Rae Aileen Michie departed this life at her home in Caruthersville, Missouri on May 22, 2017. She was 91 years old.

She was born January 15, 1926 in Caruthersville, Missouri. She was the daughter of the late Ray Edwards and Nell Alexander Edwards.

Rae attended the Caruthersville School System graduating with the class of 1943. She then attended Oklahoma Baptist College, Southeast Missouri State University and Memphis Business School. She placed a very high value on education and encouraged all seven of her grandchildren to attain their college degrees.

On January 27, 1945 in Hernando, Mississippi she was united in marriage to Mr. Erwin George Michie. He preceded her in death in 1966.

Rae, a remarkable woman, was part of the greatest generation in our Country’s history and dutifully served her country by working at the FBI in Washington, D.C. during W.W. II receiving a letter of acknowledgement from J. Edgar Hoover.

She was a faithful supporter and participant of the First Baptist Church for her whole life being baptized there in 1939.

Rae worked for the Caruthersville High School as secretary for over 38 years. During this time, she mentored many teachers and principals on the sublets of running a successful school system. Up until the time of her death, she was fondly known around town by thousands of former students and citizens in town. She was also known for her bridge playing skills. She was the resigning tournament bridge champion and taught countless people to play competitive bridge.

She was also widely renown for making the best divinity and date nut rolls in Southeast Missouri. She was an avid reader and was known to have read most of the books in the public library. Mystery novels were her favorites.

On January 27, 2016 she received a Missouri House of Representatives resolution acknowledging her life as one of the Show-Me-State’s most beloved senior citizens.

Being an only child, Rae desired a big family. She was blessed with three children, seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Nell Edwards, her husband Erwin George Michie, and a daughter, Teresa Ann Dixon.

She is survived by one son, George Allen Michie, and spouse Sherry Lenn Michie, one daughter, Peggy Gail Walker and spouse, Donald Walker, seven grandchildren, Scott Allen Michie, and spouse, Melissa Motz Michie, Paul Edward Michie and spouse, Leigh Brooke Michie, Alexis Michie Russell and spouse, Tobias Howe Russell, Teresa Michelle Clark and spouse, Jimmy Clark, Natalie Gail Hampton and spouse, Jason Hampton, Julie Brooke Burton and spouse, Chad Burton, Kamala Renee Corkin, fifteen grandchildren, Oliver James Michie, Charles Allen Michie, Milo Hitch Michie, Donovan Edward Michie, Thomas Huntington Russell, John Franklin Russell, Jayce Landis Hampton, Dylan Rance Hampton, Kaylan Gail Hampton, William James Corkin, Sophia Elise Corkin, Harris Avery Burton, Macie Ann Burton, Jordan Blake Clark, and Jacob Ryan Clark, one great-great-granddaughter Kaylee Faye Clark, other relatives, and many,many friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 27, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Lemonds officiating. Interment followed in Maple Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jason Hampton, Dylan Hampton, Jayce Hampton, Jordan Clark, Scott Michie, and Paul Michie.

The family request that memorials be made to the Rae Michie Scholarship Fund at Caruthersville High School or to the Bethany Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church.
