RUTH HELEN TRUSS

Ruth Helen Truss was born to Callie Johnson and Cornell Grant on January 6, 1946. For most of her childhood years she was raised in Greenwood, MS with her grandmother, Willie S. Brown. When they moved to Caruthersville, she was educated in the Missouri school system.

She worked at Brown Shoe Co. for many years before retiring.

Ruth was married to the late Percy Truss in the late 1980’s. During this union, they adopted her niece and nephew, Diana and Lavan Truss. Ruth lived in Caruthersville and attended New Life P.P.C. until she fell ill and couldn’t attend services.

Later she moved to Kennett, MO in the NHC Healthcare Facility where she departed this life on May 7, 2022.

Ruth was preceded in death by her mother, Callie Johnson and father, Cornell Grant, sisters, Gloria Stine Brown and Dorothy Taylor (Johnson), brothers, Ulysses S. Grant, Danny Leroy Johnson, Kenneth Eugene Johnson, and Steve Aldridge, and a special grandson she helped raise, Leslie Truss, Jr.

She is survived by her children, Diana and Lavan Truss of Caruthersville, MO, grandchildren, Brandon Lee, Jr, Braylon Lee, Lavan Truss, Amariyen Hunt, and Braycen Lee of Caruthersville, MO,

sisters, Detheria Johnson of Milwaukee, WI, Linda Faye Sims (Michael) of Jacksonville, FL, brothers, Lavan Johnson of Kennett, MO, Melvin Johnson of Jacksonville, FL, Johnny Johnson of Chicago, IL, paternal brothers, Cornell Grant, Jr, Quintin A. Grant, paternal sisters, Cynthia M. Nelson, Patricia R. Brooks, and Adrienne B. Tucker

A great host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held May 14 at Pentecostal Power Church with Bishop Tommy Cobb. Interment in Morgan Ridge Cemetery.
