Mary Christine Crews, 74, of Memphis, TN passed away peacefully March 1, 2022 after a battle with cancer, surrounded by her sisters. She was born December 25, 1947 in Steele, MO to Vernon and Mable Crews, the youngest of the eight children.

Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church in Steele and a graduate from Steele High School in 1966. She continued her education at Arkansas State University, St. Joseph School of Nursing and received her Master of Nursing from Michigan University. She taught school for six years in Charleston, MO before starting her first nursing job at St. Joseph Hospital in Memphis. Her nursing career included head nurse, medical surgical nurse, head nurse of chemotherapy, and home health. Mary had a servant’s heart and was passionate about her work as a nurse. She as a good nurse. She worked hard and continuously cared for everyone around her.

Mary loved to cook, do crafts and spend time with her friends and neighbors. She and her sister, Doris would host parties at holidays and special occasions for a group they called, “The Lovely Ladies”.

Mary is survived by her two sisters, Doris Wimberly of Memphis and Linda Cecil of Steele, one brother, Ronnie Crews and his wife Jeanie of Benton, AR, 15 nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Mable Crews and four brothers, Adron Crews, David D. Crews, Ray Crews and Wayne Crews.

Mary was a loving, kind, and generous person who would help anyone she could. A celebration of her life was held Friday, March 4 at Powell Funeral Home in Steele with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ryan West officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion in Steele. Pallbearers were Mark Cecil, Greg Crews, Keith Crews, Brian Crews, Hunter Grubbs, Kris Crews and Brian Wimberly.

Powell Funeral Home was in charge of services.
