Wednesday, March 2, 2022

Patsy Ann Malin Ferrell was born December 25, 1933 in Malden, MO. She departed this life at her home in Caruthersville, MO on February 19, 2022 at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 24 days. She was the daughter of Ponder and Naomi Malin of Caruthersville. She attended Stuttgart High School and was a graduate of the class of 1951. On October 25, 1952 she was united in marriage to Leonard T. “Buck” Ferrell of Caruthersville.

Pat worked as a bookkeeper for Home Oil and Gas Company and then retired as a bookkeeper at the Caruthersville Country Club. In 2016 she was elected City Treasurer for the City of Caruthersville and held that position until 2018.

Pat was an animal lover and an excellent cook. She was a spectacular, fabulous grandmother - “Nonnie” as her grandkids called her. She loved her family more than anything and was a loving, caring mother and mother-in-law.

Pat was a very active member of the First Baptist Church for more than 60 years. She loved making shoeboxes for “Operation Christmas Child” and Easter baskets for the foster children. It was important to Pat that any child wanting to go to church camp in the summer would have the funding to be able to go. Her generosity permitted many children to attend that might not have been able to afford to go and hopefully come to know the Lord as she had. She was a teller at her church for more than 25 years and enjoyed being part of the Women on Mission ladies group and participating in many church activities. She made her famous sweet potato casserole for many church functions.

Pat was a member of the Pemiscot County Historical Society and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She was a 50 year member of the order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by one son, Tim Ferrell and his wife MaryAnn of Portageville, MO; one daughter, Christy Mercer and her husband Bill of Caruthersville, MO; one son-in-law, Dr. Doug Fitzwater of Caruthersville, MO; 4 grand-daughters, Lauren Brands and her husband Jim of Portagevile, MO, Lindsey Hooper and her husband Andrew of Jonesboro, AR, Emma Quillin and her husband Brandon of Caruthersville, MO, and Caroline Christmas and her husband Ben of Brooklyn, NY, one grandson, Jason Mercer and his wife Cortney of Cape Girardeau, MO, eight great-grandchildren: Ella, Avery and Luke Brands, Myles and Sloane Hooper, Logan Quillin and Lizah and Noah Mercer.

Also, two very special friends, Lisa Bell Green and Polly Lunceford.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ponder and Naomi Malin, her husband Leonard T. “Buck Ferrell”, and two daughters, Sandra Lynn Ferrell and Gayla Jeanine “Jeannie” Fitzwater.
