Jerry Wayne Turner, 78, of Steele passed away Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House at St. Bernards in Jonesboro, Ark. He was born Sept. 6, 1939, in Pemiscot County, Mo., to the late John Paul Turner and Malvera Samford Turner. He was united in marriage to Ruth Crawford on July 21, 1958. He worked in highway construction for J.W. Githens Co., for 45 years and was working for Goolsby General Contractors at the time of his death. Farming was also a huge part of his life. Anyone that knew Jerry, knew he loved bulldozers, loved to eat, never met a stranger and was a hardworking man. He enjoyed quail hunting with his bird dogs and being outside.

Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his parents, John Paul Turner and Malvera Samford Turner, and one brother, Ricky Turner.

Survivors of Mr. Turner include his wife, Ruth Turner of Steele; two sons, Chris Turner of Steele and Jonathon Shawn Turner of Ripley, Tenn.; one daughter, Jerri Kay Johnson of Columbia, Mo.; two brothers, Dennis Turner of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Lindel Turner of Jonesboro, Ark., grandchildren, Blake, Kelsie, Jacob, Seth, Shawn, Justin, Jaylenn, Kevin and Rylee, and one great-grandchild, Dorian.

Funeral services for Mr. Turner were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9 at Powell Funeral Home with Mr. Tim Howard officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Pallbearers were Dereck Turner, Steve Worrell, Vernon Bishop, Chris Johnson, Owen Jenkins and Harold Goolsby Jr.

Powell Funeral Home of Steele was in charge of arrangements.
