Embrace the new year with a mindset shift from impossible to possible. Discover how faith and trust in God can transform challenges into opportunities, inspired by a little league baseball story.

First Baptist Church: This year think possible!

Well, we have made it two weeks into a new year. I hope and pray that so far, the new year has been good for you. But with every new year, we are reminded that a new year comes with fresh opportunities, aspirations, and—if we’re honest—a fair share of uncertainties. It’s natural to feel unsure when facing challenges that appear too daunting, dreams that seem out of reach, or goals that feel overwhelming.

That reminds me of the story of the man who happened upon a little league baseball game. He noticed one player who was very enthusiastic, and looking at the score board, he noticed that the young man’s team was losing 24-0. The man asked the young man, “How can you be so enthusiastic about the game when you are losing by so much?” The young man replied, “Oh that’s easy, we have not been up to bat yet!” That young man had a good attitude about a seemingly impossible situation.

But in that story is a tremendous challenge. What if this year, you shifted your perspective from impossible to possible? May we remember the words of Jesus when He said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). Jesus’ words in Matthew 19:26 remind us of God’s limitless power. On our own, we may struggle to move mountains. But with faith, trust, and reliance on God, the impossible becomes possible. His power works in ways we cannot fully comprehend—reshaping what we see as limitations and propelling us toward a purpose we never imagined.

Perhaps there's a dream you’ve put on hold because it feels too big. Maybe there’s a relationship you've written off as broken beyond repair. Or it could be a personal struggle you’ve decided you can’t overcome. Whatever sits heavy on your heart, remember that God’s power isn’t confined by our human limitations. Where we see obstacles, He sees opportunities. Where we see failure, He sees growth. And where we are weak, He is strong. To think possible doesn’t mean ignoring reality or pretending challenges don’t exist. It means aligning your heart with God’s purposes and trusting Him to do what you cannot. Begin by seeking His guidance through prayer, immersing yourself in His Word, and opening your heart to the Holy Spirit’s leading.

Paul correctly declares in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.” This year, declare this truth over your life. Allow God to move in your plans, dreams, and struggles. Take that step forward—in faith—knowing that He works all things for the good of those who love Him. May this year be one of hope, faith, and boldness as you lean into the possibilities God has for you. Trust in Him, and you’ll see His power shine through in ways beyond your imagination.
