Oather Don “Junior” Brown, age 74, a sheep and cattle farmer and longtime resident of Geiger, AL, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, March 10, 2022. The oldest child of the family, he was known as Junior by family and friends. Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Sunday, March 13, 2022 at Geiger First United Methodist Church with Rev. Wilson Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow in Soul’s Chapel Cemetery in Geiger, AL with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be Sunday, starting at 1:30 pm until service time at the church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Silvan Oather Brown and Syble Dill Brown; his brother, Ronnie Dale Brown and sister Patricia Brown.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Freda Hayes Brown; daughters, Robin Brown Sadler (Hunter) of Prattville, AL, Emily Brown (Marlin) of Orange Beach, AL and Mary Brown of Madison, AL; grandsons, Kevin Sadler and Hayes Brown; granddaughter, Emmaline Perry; his brothers and sisters, Shirley Brown Davis (Jack) of Millersville, MO, Billy Brown (Jo Beth) of Edgemont, AR, Janna Brown of Poplar Bluff, MO, Beverly Baker of Caruthersville, MO, Cleo Brown of Hayti, MO and Betty Brown Johnson of Hayti, MO; treasured aunts and uncles and many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was born on February 5, 1948 in Sikeston, Missouri and graduated from Wardell High School, Wardell, MO in 1967. He served in the United States Army, completing a two-year tour in Germany. Junior worked as a farmer in Missouri before moving to Alabama to farm and later worked for Chemical Waste Management for over 10 years before retiring and becoming a sheep farmer. He was a member of the Geiger First United Methodist Church for 45 years. Junior enjoyed hunting and fishing on his property in Geiger and helping young hunters learn how to enjoy hunting. His greatest joy was his grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Dill, Max Dill, Bruce Dill, Louis Watt, Jr., Elliott Baker, Tyler Watt, Jacob Watt and Matt Watt. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Burnett, Richard Dill, Terry Dill, Connie Duke, Kenny Eatmon, Dalen Holderman, Roger McCullers, Jerry Watt, Louis Rogers Watt and Joe Wright.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be given in memory of him to the Geiger First United Methodist Church, c/o Freda Brown 42925 Alabama Highway 17 North Emelle, AL 35459 or to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
