Wednesday, May 23, 2018
Freda Levy Gubin, 81, of Memphis, TN and Caruthersville, MO passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018 in Memphis, TN.

Freddie was born on May 21, 1936 to parents Cecil and Bernard Levy. Her husband of 54 years, Dr. Alan Gubin, passed away in 2011 and her daughter-in-law Karin in 2014. She is survived by her three sons, Drs. Steven (Rachel Belz), David (Shari), and Barry Gubin and her six grandchildren, Cassidy, Carly, Cody, Jacob, Sarah, and Emma Gubin.

Freddie was raised in Memphis, TN, and attended Stephens College and Ohio State University. She married Alan and moved to Caruthersville, Missouri in 1957, dedicating much of her life to supporting her late husband, Dr. Alan Gubin, raising her three sons, enhancing the communities of Caruthersville and nearby towns, and developing wonderful long-lasting friendships.

Freddie was the backbone of the Gubin family. Her strength, insightfulness, and determination contributed to her husband’s success in becoming one of the more well-known and respected physicians in the bootheel of Missouri and to her children’s accomplishments. Freddie’s husband, Dr. Alan Gubin, practiced Pediatrics and Family Medicine in Caruthersville for over 50 years. He was an icon in Caruthersville and the surrounding communities. Each of Freddie’s three sons are esteemed physicians. Steven practices cardiology in Memphis, Barry radiology in Kansas City, and David urology in Memphis.
After her children left the home Freddie started her own successful business of selling Carlisle women’s clothing in Caruthersville and the surrounding communities. She was incredibly energetic, constantly traveling to neighboring cities in the Bootheel of Missouri, Arkansas, and Tennessee to shop, visit friends, and deliver Carlisle clothing.

Freddie had a wonderful heart. In addition to taking care of her family, she was often entertaining, cooking for friends, and assisting others in the community, frequently driving them to medical appointments in Memphis.

Freddie was a loving, kind, and generous wife, mother and grandmother. She adored her children and grandchildren and loved every minute she spent with them. She was especially happy when the grandchildren visited and stayed at her home in Caruthersville.

Freddie lived in Caruthersville for over 55 years. She moved to Memphis to be close to her children and their families in 2013. Freddie established many new and rekindled many old friendships once moving back to Memphis while remaining in contact with the many friends she adored in Caruthersville. She continued to enjoy life and always wanted to “go out and have fun.”

Freddie was adored by her family and friends who will miss her immensely.
