Dixie Sam Reed was born January 13, 1942 in Hayti . He died February 18, 2018 in Cape Girardeau, at the age of 76 years, 1 month, and 5 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Vonita Reed, two brothers, Harry Reed and Jerry Reed, and one sister, Polly Newsom.

He was of Methodist Faith and was a loving and caring father and husband. He graduated as the valedictorian of his high school class in 1960. He joined the United States Air Force in 1963, where he spent four years serving his country and receiving his honorable discharge in 1967. He retired from farming in 2013 after farming for 50 years. He enjoyed going out to eat with his family and spending time with his friends. Dixie also enjoyed keeping up with the world news on his favorite TV show CNN and other channels.

He leaves the following to cherish his memory, his wife, Betty Reed of Hayti, one son, Dixie Sam Reed Jr. of Hayti, two step-children, Amy Jo Cole of Kennett and James Winn of Malden, one sister, Penny (Dennis) Dahl of Smyrna, TN, and one brother, Dan (Wilma) Reed of Perryville, and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the John W. German Funeral Home in Hayti with Brother Frank Husted officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Hayti with full military honors.

Pallbearers were Mike Prince, D.J. Whiles, Jeff Garcia, Randy Fennell, Jimmy and Andrew Winn. Honorary pallbearers were Dub Pate, Jimmy Strothers, and James Dorroh.
