MARY MARGARET POUNDER

Mary Margaret Pounder was born in Caruthersville on December 28, 1929.

She departed this life at the St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, on January 10, 2018 at the age of 88.

She was the daughter of the late William Roy Thrasher and Hattie Mae Eaves Thrasher.

She attended the Caruthersville Schools.

On November 23, 1946 in Caruthersville she was united in marriage to Thomas LaFayette Hardesty. He preceded her in death on February 3, 1971.

In 1978 she was united in marriage to Lawrence O’Dean Pounder. He preceded her in death on December 4, 2015.

Mary enjoyed playing cards with her friends, gardening, working in her flower beds and cooking. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her two grandchildren.

She was a former member of the Caruthersville Women’s Club and was also active in the RSVP program.

Mary was also a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the Catholic Ladies Organization.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, William Roy Thrasher, Jr., Eugene Thrasher, and Thomas Thrasher.

She is survived by two daughters, Dianne Banka and her husband, Bill of Caruthersville, Susan Duran and her husband, Rich of Peotone, IL, two grandchildren, Jennifer Spears of Kankakee, IL, and Meredith Spears of Charlotte, NC, two brothers, Kenneth Thrasher of Jackson, TN, Bob Thrasher of Gerald, MO, three sisters, Jeanette Hudgins of Caruthersville, Ruth Stimel of Clayton, NC, Josie Anderson of Doniphan, MO, two step-sons, Gary Pounder of Yorktown, VA, Gerry Pounder of San Diego, CA, and a very special person whom she regarded as her “third” daughter, Pattie Woods Grable of Caruthersville, along with many, many friends.

Funeral Mass was held Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Jaroslaw Szkrzypek officiating. The interment was in the Pemiscot Memorial Gardens in Caruthersville.

Pallbearers were Gary Pounder, Gerry Pounder, Rich Duran, Bill Banka, Patrick Hudgins, and Chris Wade.

The H.S. Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the services.
