In a tripleheader at the South Pemiscot gym Thursday, Dec. 4, the Bulldogs swept North Pemiscot and the Lady Bulldogs (3-8) defeated the visiting Holcomb Lady Hornets. In the girls game, the Lady Bulldogs started slowly, allowing Holcomb to stay within striking distance. At the end of the first quarter, after two ties at 6 apiece and 7 apiece, South Pemiscot held a slim 13-7. However, the Lady ‘Dogs flexed some muscle and pulled away from the Lady Hornets in the second frame, never looking back and defeating Holcomb 54-23.

Damaris Farmer paced South Pemiscot with 20 points. Lakeyia Brown knocked down 11 points, followed by Kaylee Williams with eight points and Darcey Morton with five points.

After the game, Coach Nick Nealey assessed the current status of his Lady Bulldogs. “We rebounded the ball well, and the girls played hard for the entire game,” he said. “Holcomb was missing their leading scorer, but I thought our kids played hard and wanted to win.

“We came off of three tough loses in Dyersburg to very stiff competition,” Coach Nealey continued. “Our kids competed but were pretty outmatched. I thought the toughness we acquired showed up some tonight. We look forward to practice every day so that we can get in the gym and get a little better. This is a good group, and Coach Morton and I enjoy being around them every day. We are definitely looking forward to the rest of the season.”

The boys junior varsity boys game against North Pemiscot was a two-quarter affair, defeating the Mustangs 47-3. Leading the way for South Pemiscot were Noah Willingham and DeCarlos Johnson with 14 points each. Lane McCormick tossed in four points and JT Eddleman hit a 3-point shot.

The varsity game was also one-sided, as the Bulldogs beat North Pemiscot 70-32. Leading South Pemiscot’s scoring was Darius Johnson with 15 points. Nor far behind was Kevin Burton with 14 points and Terrence Mullen with 11 points. Jamarea Rogers drained nine points, Terryon Johnson six, Chase Terry five, Khalal Rogers four and Noah Willingham four.

Coach Mike Kilgore weighed in on the remainder of the Bulldogs’ season. We have to play hard for the remainder of our schedule. We are hitting a stretch where every night will be a tough game,” he said. “We have to learn from our mistakes in the first half of the season and be ready to close the season out strong. February is the only month that matters in high school basketball.”
