Wednesday, December 13, 2017

The Hayti City Council met in regular session at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11 and passed a resolution that seeks funding for new police radios through the Communities Facilities Grant program. “This is the grant the police department was able to get to help with the radios,” Mayor Lisa Green told the council. The grant, provided by USDA Rural Development, is valued at $21,250.

The Board of Aldermen voted to approve minutes and treasurer’s report. Also, councilpersons passed a motion to pay city bills. “I guess you see our bills are quite high,” Mayor Green noted. “Over $110,00 of that is insurance, so we were hit pretty hard.”

Aldermen Wendell Lockridge inquired if the city is stocked with adequate winter supplies. Acting street supervisor, William VanVickle, reported the city currently has 177 bags of ice for sidewalks and approximately one-half load of salt for the salt sprayer, used during snowy and icy weather. After a brief discussion, aldermen voted to purchase an additional load of salt for the salt truck.

Nutrition Center Administrator Rhonda Green reported that AT&T is currently charging approximately $600 per month for services, including fax, phone and Internet. The council will continue to pursue other options to eliminate this excessive expense.

Hayti Water Supervisor Ben Sweet provided council with several items of interest, including the need to repair water well 6. Sweet reported the well can be repaired for $6,392, a two-day job. Council approved Sweet’s recommendation.

Additionally, Sweet requested that well maintenance and records be upgraded through an annual repair program in order to meet Missouri DNR’s guidelines at a total cost of $2,505. The Board of Aldermen approved the recommendation.

Sweet also explained the situation with a local church’s new house being built at South J Highway, along with the future construction of their new church building. After discussion, the council approved a project designed to the meet the site’s water needs.

Hayti Fire Chief Glen Whitener thanked the city for its support of the Hayti Fire Department Annual Rip Supper and Auction held Saturday, Dec. 2.

After all agenda items were addressed, the Hayti City Council voted to adjourn meeting. The next regular meeting is set for 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8.
