The Steele City Council met in regular session Monday, Nov. 6. The first item on the agenda was the paying of the bills, which totaled $361,504.10. A motion was approved to pay the bills. Next, Mayor Keith Samford reported that several South Pemiscot students wanted to collect money at the four-way stop on Main Street. The council agreed to let them set up from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Mayor Samford gave a report on the new fire department station. “The architect has pretty much finalized the plans for the station. The plans have to be sent to the USDA for them to accept them.” The architect sent an invoice for her work. The council agreed to pay 40 percent of her total bill.

The mayor also mentioned it was time to renew the city’s insurances. A motion was approved to renew MoPerm and to get bids from other health insurance agencies.

The copiers at the police department and at the code enforcer’s office need to be replaced or repaired. After discussion, the council decided to buy one copier for the police department, and buy one for the code enforcer later.

Other items on the agenda included giving three water adjustments and pricing police trucks - $25,000.

Code Enforcer Verlon Barnard said several properties and houses in Steele needed attention. After much discussion on different options, it was decided to talk to city attorney Lawrence Dorroh about the options.

The next regular meeting of the Steele City Council will be at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4.
