Charles Baxter born November 7, 1944 and passed away November 3, 2017. Loving father of Dee Anne (Turbo), Lane (Mark), Baxter (Elizabeth) and Gordon (Lindley). “Papa” to 11 loving grandchildren who adored him. He also is survived by his wife, Pat Bick. Charles was born in Steele, Missouri and moved to Caruthersville, Missouri as a young child when his father started Southern Towing Company.

He graduated from Southeast Missouri State University where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and where he met Jana Atteberry on a double date. The parties switched dates and he married Jana in 1966. They moved to New Orleans where Charles earned his law degree at Tulane Law School.

After he graduated in 1969, they returned to the Bootheel where they raised their four children while Charles worked at Southern Towing Company and ran James R. Moore Insurance Agency. In 1991, Charles and Jana moved to St. Louis. For over 49 years, Charles worked as a maritime insurance broker for various companies including Corroon & Black, Aon and McGriff, Siebels & Williams.

Well known throughout the industry, Charles not only built his career but also friendships that lasted throughout his life. After the death of his wife in 2011, he was fortunate to meet Pat Bick and they were married in 2015. His children are grateful to Pat and his caregiver Karen for the love and support during his three year battle with cancer. A trick water skier in his youth, Charles also enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his life. One of his favorite places was his home on Kentucky Lake, where he loved spending time with family and friends. He was fun loving, generous, compassionate, exuded inspiration and was sustained throughout his life by his family, friends and faith.
