Cooter City Council meets

Wednesday, November 1, 2017

The Cooter City Council met in regular session Tuesday, Sept. 19. Present at the meeting were Mayor Jerry Rushing, aldermen - Brenda Horton, Gary Robinson and Jerry McClure, City Clerk Regina Davis and visitors - Thomas Young and Christopher Anderson.

Mayor Rushing called the meeting to order. Motions were made to accept the minutes from August and to accept the financial report records.

Next on the agenda, the council discussed the matter of pit bulls running loose around town. The city has a leash ordinance in place, however, no one will claim the dogs. The mayor said, “If one of these dogs running loose of any breed bites someone, measures will be taken.”

Alderman Horton asked to discuss the matter of the police car being parked at a resident’s home when no policeman is on duty. The board agreed that when a policeman is not on duty, the patrol car should be parked at the police department.

Alderman Robinson discussed having the Pemiscot County Sheriff Department take over the police patrol for the city. Robinson stated that if the sheriff’s department did patrol, it would rid the city of all car repairs, insurance and fuel for the police car. After much discussion, it was decided to have attorney Lawrence Dorroh draw up a contract for the county. It was noted the city would still receive money for all citations written.

The selling of the drug store lot was tabled.
