Tigers Take on Wild Cats

Wednesday, October 4, 2017

Perfect fall weather made traveling for a rare Saturday game looking for another Tiger win worthwhile. The Caruthersville Tigers (4-2) traveled to Cuba, Missouri to battle the Cuba Wildcats (2-4) Saturday, September 30. The nearly four-hour bus trip did not keep the Tigers from taming the Wild Cats. Caruthersville came home with another win and will head in to the battle of the Bootheel next week with a 5-2 record as they meet up with the Hayti Indians (6-1) at home on Friday October 6 at 7 pm.

Even after a long bus ride, the Tigers were ready to take on the Cuba Wild Cats. With only a minute off the clock, the Tigers struck first, scoring the first of four Tiger touchdowns of the quarter. The Wild Cats tried to make good on some plays, but were stopped short too many times, only managing two touchdowns in the first quarter. End of the first quarter; Tigers 29, Cuba 12.

The second quarter was no better for the Wild Cats as the Tigers had the upper hand and would not let Cuba have any breaks. The Tigers scored four more touchdowns to the Wild Cats one before the half time horn sounded. End of the half, Tigers 56, Cuba 20.

The clock kept running in the second half, keeping the pace of the game quick. Scoring was light and many of the Tiger second string players got a chance to put in a few plays. The third quarter saw the Tigers get one more touchdown, and Cuba defensive line staying on the field more than their offensive line. The game ended with a score of 63-20 Tigers.

When asked about the game, Coach Jackson stated, “I thought our special teams did a tremendous job. We scored points in lots of different ways.”
