On Thursday evening The Caruthersville Lady Tigers matched up against the Holcomb Lady Hornets. Both the JV and Varsity games were competitive and showed the power both teams had on the courts. The Lady Tigers JV started off slow, but came roaring back to take the Holcomb Hornets 2-1. Not to be out done, the Varsity took their set 2-0.

Game one of the JV set started off slow for the Lady Tigers. Seeming to be out of sync, the team struggled allowing Holcomb to take the game fairly easily. Game two saw the Lady Tigers awake from their daze. The Tigers came in strong and returned several difficult volleys, bolstering their confidence and strengthening their resolve. The Lady Tigers managed to play balls off the net, returned blocks and showed good passing skills. The Hornets kept the game close; keeping pace with the Tigers. A series of good serves allowed the Tigers to ease ahead and stay in the lead to take the second game. Game three was a continuation of game two. Strong volleys, good setting and passing and defensive plays on both sides of the net kept the crowd cheering. Again, the Tigers kept just far enough ahead to take the game. JV won 2-1.

The players and parent were honored to hear a live performance of the National Anthem performed acapella by Tiger JV player, Madilynn Pierce. Madilynn did an awesome job if the reaction of the crowd was any indication.

The Varsity game started off in strong fashion. Tigers and Hornets exchanged points and were often tied throughout most of the first game. Each team would trade off points and then tie the other, going back and forth. Neither team gaining more than 2 points on the other before tying it up again. Keara Johnson served an ace and broke a tie, sending the Tigers on a 3-point rally, but the Hornets gathered their strength and tied it back up again. Finally, with the score at 20 apiece, the Tigers managed to gain the upper hand taking game one by a score of 25-21. Pumped by the win in game one, the Tigers took the early lead in game two. Some exceptional Tiger passing and setting as well as a few blocks and kills kept the Hornet on their toes. The Hornets matched the Tiger pace with some great volleys, passing and blocking of their own. Unfortunately for the Lady Hornets, the Tigers kept the game just out of reach. The Tigers took game two and the match by a score of 25-18.
