South Pemiscot school board meets

The South Pemiscot R-V School District Board of Education met in regular session Thursday, Sept. 14. The first item on the agenda was to approve the PDC Budget and Allocation for 2017-2018. “The board approves the preliminary PDC budget and allocation yearly so that the PDC committee may have a budget that can be spent for professional development for the staff,” said Superintendent Chris Moore. “The PDC budget decreased $1,500 this year as compared to last year.” The board approved the PDC budget.

Next Mr. Moore said the proposed budget for 2017-18 projects a deficit of $215,797.11. “In preparing the budget, the administration used a realistic estimate for revenue and expenditures raising some. The board may review the proposed budget this month and vote on proposed budget in October,” stated Moore.

In the superintendent’s report, Mr. Moore noted that LED lights have been installed in the Multi-Purpose gym and high school gym lobby, and the high school gym would receive them in the coming days. The new bus would soon be delivered. He also explained that Donna Crawford was returning from Vo-Tech, without kids, when she hit a bump causing Bus 6 to hit a culvert on the right side of the road. Pitts’ Garage estimated repairs to be $12,180. The insurance company has been contacted and an adjustor will be sent out.

Elementary principal Jason Williams reported that his school used Evaluate testing for the first time, and it went fine.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Education will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12.
