SHIRLEY ANN BURNS

Wednesday, September 20, 2017

Shirley Ann Burns, 81, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017. She was born July 17, 1936, in Blytheville, Ark., to Ollie and Elsie Reynolds. She was a graduate of Steele High School class of 1955. She married the love of her life, Howard Burns, on April 30, 1958, in Hernando, Miss. They were married for 59 years. They are most well-known for owning the local hardware store for 35 years, where they worked together every day. They had one daughter, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her family was her pride and joy. She was always ready to brag and show you pictures of what she deemed the most beautiful children alive. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Steele. She was very active in the Steele community, and for many years, she served on the Steele Park Board and Chamber of Commerce (always making sure the town was decorated for Christmas). She was an avid bowler, loved to travel and enjoyed Friday night card games, but mostly, she loved her St. Louis Cardinals. She will be deeply by her family and friends and all that knew her.

Mrs. Burns was preceded in death by her grandmother, Rosie Smith; parents, Ollie and Elsie Reynolds; one brother, A.L. Reynolds, and one sister Deen Stewart.

Survivors of Mrs. Burns include her loving husband, Howard Burns; daughter and son-in-law, Julia and Steve Wheatley; one grandson, Bart Wheatley and his wife, Kelly; one granddaughter, Jestle Gee and her husband, Jay; four great-grandchildren, Jilly, Emmy Ann, Merritt and Eloise; a very special aunt (more like a sister/mother) Jestle Juanita “Kid” James; one brother, Jack Reynolds, and various other family members and friends.

Pallbearers were Kris Robinson, Gene Reams, Jerry Graham, Verlon Barnard and Raymond DePriest. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Brooks, Eddie Gilbert, Norvel Ward, Bill Biggs, Don Rogers and Delbert DePriest.
