A couple of big in-county rivalry volleyball games were played at Deering, Mo., Monday night when the North Pemiscot Lady Mustangs rolled into town to take on the Delta C-7 Lady Chargers. Charger coaches Darcy Yates and Paige Burgess were looking for their junior varsity squad to come up with a big win, and a win they got. In three sets of excellent volleyball action, the jayvee Lady Chargers snagged the victory over North Pemiscot, 25-22, 17-25, 25-22.

The first set started well for Delta as the Lady Chargers took an early 4-1 lead. North Pemiscot quickly bounced back and took the lead, but Riley Gilmore tied the game up at 9 with a monster spike. Delta would then go on a 6-0 run to put the score at 15-9. However, the Mustangs came galloping back, eventually making a set out of it. The Lady Chargers held on for the first set win.

The second set was competitive, as North Pemiscot simply refused to quit. The set was neck-and-neck until late when the Mustangs exerted some energy and won it, tying the match at 1-1.

The third and final set would determine the winner, and the Lady Chargers showed some grit and determination. Kagan Teal shined for Delta in the third frame, getting a couple of critical digs and crucial aces.

Although the Lady Chargers were playing well, the Lady Mustangs were not going away without a fight. They knotted the set at 19 apiece and forced Delta C-7 to up the ante on their defensive efforts.

Charger London Jones delivered a series of stout serves, including an ace that gave Delta C-7 the lead, 20-19, and the momentum. However, once again, North Pemiscot made it tough, coming within two points late in the set at 24-22. The Chargers were able to find that final point, giving them the set and the match victory, 25-22, 17-25, 25-22.

In the varsity game, the Lady Chargers engineered some excellent offensive series, but it just was not enough to take down the undefeated Lady Mustangs. North Pemiscot would go on to win the varsity match in two straight sets, 25-11, 25-13.
