Hayti team preparing for the serve in varsity game 3

Tuesday, Sept. 5 was the Battle of the Bootheel for Volleyball. Caruthersville and Hayti whether on the football field or the court always have great matchups. This game was no exception. The Caruthersville Junior Varsity won their set 2-0, but the Caruthersville Varsity lost, after several very close games, 2-1.

The evening began with the Tiger Junior Varsity (JV) taking the court to try to make a quick game of the matchup against Hayti. The Indians had other plans. The Indian JV showed they are not to be messed with by giving all they had to keep the first and second game close. Both teams volleyed back and forth for several great sessions. In the end, the Tiger JV managed to take the set away from the Indian JV in 2 games.

After a rousing performance by Madilynn Pierce, singing the National Anthem, the Varsity Tigers and Indians took the courts. Hayti started off with a good series of hits to take an early lead. Caruthersville rallied quickly to keep the game competitive. After some very intense back and forth action, Hayti took the first game by a slim lead. Game two started where game one left off, with lots of intense back and forth action between the two teams. The scoring stayed very tight. Keara Johnson managed to make several great kills to assist the Lady Tigers in winning game two. Game three continued with tight matchups between the two teams. Scoring was back and forth staying close and tying every few points. Volleys, kills, Aces, back and forth. Each team exchanging points, so close. Finally, the Indians managed to gain enough points to take game, set match.
