(Caruthersville) Maddie Treece gets ready to bump the ball in the JV game

Thursday, Sept. 7 the Caruthersville Tigers visited the South Pemiscot Bulldogs. The two teams have had several close matchups so far in their season. Each school came into the matchup with more losses than wins. Both teams were hungry for a W, but only one can claim victory. The Lay Tiger Junior Varsity (JV) took the win for the evening with a set score of 2-0. The Lady Tiger Varsity didn’t fare as well, and were handed a 2-0 set loss in a close matchup.

The Junior Varsity teams took the court first. Both teams showed strong form which included several long volleys as well as back and forth point exchange. Eventually the Lady Tigers took hold of the score and served several points on the Lady Bull Dogs, pulling ahead and staying just out of reach in the first game of the set. Game two was played out in similar fashion Each team exchanging points and keeping a close matchup. Again, the Lady Tiger JV pulled ahead just enough to take the set from the Lady Bulldogs by a set score of 2-0.

The varsity teams next took to the court. The Lady Bulldogs took an early lead in game one. Good ball passing and a kill gave the Bulldogs the upper hand for a short time. The Tigers sets and spikes amped the play to an exciting level as the Tigers started a scoring run closing the gap and tying the game, then pulling head. Not to be outdone, the South Pem. team amped up their play. Each team took a slight lead for a short period of time. The winner of the game would have to not only achieve a score of 25, but also maintain a 2-point lead over the opposing team. Scoring went back and forth, tying at 22, then 23, 24, 25 until finally, the Bulldogs managed to gain two points in a row to take game one. The second game starts just as the first game left off; each team exchanging points in a fierce battle for the second game of the set. Slowly, the Bulldogs pulled ahead and stayed enough ahead of the Tigers to take game two away. The South Pemiscot Bulldogs took the set by a score of 2-0.
