ELIZABETH BURNETT

Elizabeth Burnett was born in Broadmore, Tennessee on June 4, 1931.

She departed this life at the Pemiscot Memorial Nursing Home in Hayti, Missouri, on September 1, 2017 at the age of 86.

She was the daughter of the late Elihue Kennedy and Julia Ann Thurmond Kennedy.

She attended schools in New Madrid County, Missouri.

On January 10, 1946, in Piggott, Arkansas she was united in marriage to Mr. John Jewell Burnett. He preceded her in death on August 23, 1984.

Mrs. Burnett was a charter member of the Temple Baptist Church, where she was very active. Taking care of the nursery was just one of many tasks that she took care of.

She enjoyed shopping, gardening, and going to dances.

Mrs Burnett was employed by the Brown Shoe Company for over 41 years prior to her retirement. She was also the secretary for Woodmen of America.

She was preceded in death by one brother, John Kennedy and one sister, Marcell Jackson.

She is survived by three sons, Cletus Burnett and his wife Carol of Hayti, MO, Chester Burnett and his wife Linda of Caruthersville, MO, and Barry Burnett and his wife Brenda of Caruthersville, MO, 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandsons, and 7 great-granddaughters, one sister, Martha Kennedy and her husband, Steve of Woodstock, GA, one brother, Lonnie Kennedy and his wife Debbie of Hayti, MO, a number of other relatives, and many friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Pilcher officiating. The interment was in the Maple Cemetery in Caruthersville.

Pallbearers were Mike Griffin, Jay Stricklin, Landon Stricklin, Edna McElyea, Derrick Burnett and Matt Kennedy.

The H.S. Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the services.
