BETTY LOU SCHWARTZ

Betty Lou Schwartz was born in Caruthersville, Missouri on February 11, 1926. She was the first of three remarkable human beings, born to Felix Powell and Mary Holt Powell.

She departed this life in Anniston, Alabama on September 4, 2017. She was 91 years old.

Mrs. Schwartz traveled the world with her husband during his Air Force career, later settling in Anniston, Alabama. She was the recipient of the “Clara Barton Award” for her many years of service to the American Red Cross. In her later years, Mrs. Schwartz worked as a volunteer with the Regional Medical Center of Anniston, Alabama, until illness forced her to retire at the age of 90. She was devoted wife and mother to her family always putting others before herself. She loved God and was of the Episcopal faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Schwartz of Steele, sister, Martha Thompson, and brother Robert Powell, both of Caruthersville.

She is survived by son Charles M. Schwartz, Jr. of Gulf Breeze, FL, daughter Pamela Sue McGarity and husband Tom McGarity of Anniston, AL, grandchildren Charley Musinsky Schwartz and wife Kongpaseuth Scwartz of Tallahassee, FL, granddaughter Summer Michelle McGarity of Anniston, and great-grandchildren Maxwell and Alexander Schwartz of Tallahassee, FL.

Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. on September 7, 2017 at Maple Cemetery with Rev. Kenny Lee officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Regional Medical Center Auxiliary in Anniston, Alabama.
