Wednesday, September 6, 2017

The South Pemiscot R-V School District Board of Education met in regular session, Thursday, Aug. 24. The first item discussed was the tax rate hearing. Superintendent Chris Moore explained, “The district received the maximum rate allowed by the state auditor for this year. The rate is 3.5824 cents. The district would have the rate 3.0824 cents for Fund 1 and 50 cents for fund 4.” The board approved the tax rate.

Next, Mr. Moore asked the board to approve the local compliance plan for Pemiscot County Special School District. “This allows PCSSD to submit the necessary paperwork to DESE on the district’s behalf to maintain compliance through the special education services,” he said. The board approved the plan.

The board next discussed setting the tuition rate for the South Pemiscot to be $3,200 for the 2017-18 school year. A motion was passed to set the rate. The board also approved three additional MSBA policies: GBL, JFCL and JO for the new school year.

In the superintendent’s report, Mr. Moore told the board, “Ameren has a rebate program that provides incentives for switching to LED lights. We were in the process of purchasing some new LED lights in the lobby, however, David informed me that Butler Supply from Sikeston would handle the entire process with Ameren thereby offsetting a large portion of the cost of the LED lights.” The cost to the district will be $1,236.
