JOSEPH IRA PATTILLO

Joseph Ira Pattillo was born in Portageville, Missouri on May 5, 1935. He was the son of Elith William (Buck) Pattillo and Margaret Ann Penrod Pattillo.

He departed this life at home in Caruthersville, Missouri on August 19, 2017. He was 82 years old.

Joe graduated with the Caruthersville High School class of 1953.

On April 16, 1955 at the Nazarene Church in Caruthersville, Missouri he was united in marriage to Betty Sue Gibson.

Joe had many jobs. he worked at Baskins Drug Store, Big Star Grocery, Hays Grocery in both Hayti and Caruthersville, he sold insurance, and worked at the County Courthouse. He was known for delivering the newspapers including the St. Louis Post, St. Louis Globe, Memphis Commercial Appeal, and the Democrat Argus. In addition to these jobs he was an avid reader of westerns and also watched all the old John Wayne movies on television. He loved fishing and also playing the slots at the boat. He was truly a people person.

Joe was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a very faithful member of the First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

He is survived by a son, Joe Allen Pattillo (Paula Thompson) of Caruthersville, MO, a daughter, Lisa (David) McClendon of Caruthersville, MO, an aunt, Clara Beatrice Penrod of Springfield, MO, two grandsons, Joseph Allen (Lori) Pattillo, Jr., and Matthew McClendon, two great-grandchildren, Addison and Ava Pattillo, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 23, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Boyd and Rev. Jimmy Lemonds officiating. Interment was in Maple Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jamie Strickland, Jay Strickland, Raymond Owen, Joe Allen Pattillo, Joseph Pattillo, and Matthew McClendon.
