Mathis receives $500 grant

With the help of Teri Carnell; Reading Specialist at Mathis Elementary School, the third grade teachers received $500.00 to spend on novel chapter books for their classrooms. The overall goal is to ignite first and foremost, the joy and excitement of reading through novel studies. Once a student falls in love with reading, reading fluency, reading strategies, the Accelerated Reading Program, along with their online reading program I-Ready will improve. “We as teachers see that when a student falls in love with reading, our state test scores improve too. Thank you to the Missouri Retired Teacher Foundation for the opportunity to apply for this grant.”
