According to Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell, at 12:51 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, Pemiscot County 911 received a call of a domestic assault occurring on Missouri Route NN, near the Arkansas State Line. “The caller reported a male suspect beating a female. This occurred in Dunklin County,” he said. “Before deputies could arrive, another call came in advising that a male subject had stopped the assault and took the female with him for safety.”

Dunklin County deputies were first on the scene. Then Pemiscot County 911 received another call from the subject who said he had taken the female to his farm shop for safety until deputies could arrive. While on the phone with 911, the suspect arrived and began cursing and threatening the farmer and the female with bodily harm. “The suspect had one hand behind his back during this time,” Sheriff Greenwell explained. “The farmer advised him several times to leave his property. The female told the farmer the suspect had a gun earlier, and the suspect continued to approach the couple in a threatening manner.

“The suspect was again advised to show his hands and get off the property or he would be shot,” Sheriff Greenwell continued. “The suspect continued to approach them and stated, ‘You ain’t gonna shoot me.’ At this time, the farmer advised he was afraid the suspect had a gun and was in fear of his and the victim’s lives, so he shot the suspect in the leg.”

The victim was flown to a Jonesboro hospital for treatment. The investigation continues by the Pemiscot and Dunklin County Sheriff’s Offices. Upon completion, the case will be forwarded to the Dunklin and Pemiscot County prosecutors.
