Meeks and McDowell retire

Gwyn McDowell and Karen Meeks wrap up their final day with Summer Food.

On Friday, July 28, Karen Meeks and Gwyn McDowell hung up their aprons after almost 50 years combined serving the Summer Food Program.

Meeks, has served for 30 years, along the way serving up about 2 million meals to area children. While McDowell has put in 15 years of service.

The program is funded through the Missouri Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Agriculture. It allows the group to serve state approved meals to children 18 and under throughout the summer months, ensuring that the kids are fed and checked on while school is out.

The ladies say not to worry, this great program will continue next year under the leadership of Paula DeBose, Shawdrae Isable and Georgia Bryant.
