Stephen Smith of MDC presents Fire Chief Glen Whitener with a check for a Conservation Grant.

With the help of Training Officer Brad Jones, the Hayti Fire Department qualified for another matching funds grant that enabled the department to purchase 7 new pagers as well as 7 hand held radios.  Mayor Lisa Green and city council persons Kathy Sanders, Wendell Lockridge, Gary Moore, and Chris Wooten approved the grant application a few months ago and the equipment was purchased.  The fire department qualified for the "Conservation Grant" that is a 50% match for certain purchases.  Recently Stephen Smith from MDC presented Chief Glen Whitener with a check for $2,914.98.

"We are grateful to both the City Council and The Missouri Department of Conservation.  MDC offers fire departments a chance to apply for grants that will help better equip them for rural and wild-land fires." Whitener said, "and it really helps us make purchases of needed equipment that might not be possible without the grant."
