Steele Chief of Police Billy Joe Stanfield reports that on Wednesday, July 19, Steele police and the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Department served a search warrant at a residence on McCollum Street in Steele.

Upon entry into the home, officers made contact with Thomas Chris Jones, 31, who had an active arrest warrant through Pemiscot County charging him with burglary-first, assault- third, unlawful use of weapon and unlawful use of a firearm (bond $100,000).

“During the search of the home, a substantial quantity of illegal drugs was found and seized by law enforcement,” said Chief Stanfield. “Suspected crack cocaine, ecstasy pills, marijuana and methamphetamine were seized.”

“While executing the warrant, a large crowd began to gather on the street, and several individuals began taunting the police,” he further explained. “Other law enforcement agencies then responded to assist the officers that were on the scene.”

Steele police filed a report with the Pemiscot County Prosecuting Attorney, and a warrant was subsequently issued on Jones, charging him with trafficking drugs - second degree and two counts of possession of a controlled substance with bond set at $50,000.

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Hayti Police, Caruthersville Police, Missouri State Highway Patrol and New Madrid County Sheriff Department all assisted in the execution of the warrant.
