Shannon Wayne Overturf Sr., 70, of Caruthersville, Mo., passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017, in Caruthersville. He was born Aug. 2, 1946, in Steele to the late William Everett “Buddy” Overturf and Alice Inman Haley. He served his country as a military police in the National Guard. He retired from the Missouri Department of Transportation, then went to work for River Ready Mix in Caruthersville. He was a graduate of South Pemiscot High School.

Mr. Overturf was preceded in death by his parents, William Everett “Buddy” Overturf and Alice Inman Haley; one son, Shannon Wayne Overturf Jr.; three brothers, Danny Overturf, Fred Evans and Steve Evans.

Survivors of Mr. Overturf include his companion, Carolyn Mangrum of Caruthersville; two sisters, Lisa and Johnnie Kay; three brothers, Larry, Mike and Keith; five grandchildren, Brooke, Shannon Overturf III and his wife, Jennifer, Lynsey Stallings, Chance Heinen and Braylin Overturf, nine great-grandchildren; Carolyn’s children, Jimmy Mangrum, Tonya Davis and Matt Mangrum; James and Sean Milburn and Lori Garrett.

Funeral services for Mr. Overturf were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 5 at Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Clark officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Pallbearers were Sean Milburn, Matt Mangrum, Trey Overturf, Jimmy Mangrum, Bobby Davis and John Kale.

Powell Funeral Home of Steele was in charge of arrangements.
