Mae Bell Young

Mae Bell Young was born in Caruthersville, Missouri on July 19, 1925.

She departed this life at Baptist Hospital East in Memphis, Tennessee on July 12, 2017 at the age of 91, just one week prior to her 92nd birthday.

She was the daughter of the late Joe Mathenia and Willie Mathenia.

She attended McCarty Schools.

On October 13, 1943 in Caruthersville she was united in marriage to Mr. Fred W. Young. He preceded her in death on February 12, 1982.

Mae Bell worked at the Brown Shoe Company, helped her husband run Young’s Produce & Fish Market and was also a Senior Companion for the VNA.

She was of the Baptist Faith.

She is survived by two daughters, Alice McCoy and her husband, Frank, of Caruthersville, MO, Sue Ormsbee and her husband, Al, of Reedley, CA, 6 grandchildren, Vickie, Keith, Kathleen, Jeff, Todd, and Kevin, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, 1 sister, Lois Savala of Quintana Roo, Mexico, and a number of other relatives and many friends.

Mae Bell was also preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

Graveside memorial services will be held on Monday, July 24 at 1:30 p.m. in the Little Prairie Cemetery in Caruthersville.
