Thomas F. “Tommy” Thompson

Mr. Thomas F. “Tommy” Thompson, age 80 years, of St. Martins, Mo. passed away Friday, June 16, 2017 at his home.

Tommy was born on November 23, 1936 in Lubbock, Texas the son of the late Maurice and Dorothy (Ward) Thompson. He was married on December 29, 1962 in Boonville, Mo. to Sherry Ann Wells, who preceded him in death on January 28, 2014.

Tommy was a 1954 graduate of Caruthersville High School and received his degree from the University of Missouri in 1964.

He served in the United States Air Force being honorably discharged as an Airman First Class in 1957.

Tommy was employed as a Market Conduct Examiner with the State of Missouri Department of Insurance and had previously worked for 24 years with Farm Bureau as Regional Claims Supervisor.

He volunteered with Boy Scouts when his kids were younger. Tommy enjoyed being active outdoors and gardening, but you could also find him lounging on the couch/chair watching television. He was an avid Kansas City Royals and Chiefs fan and especially liked to watch those games.

Survivors include: his three children, Trish Sexton (husband Bill) of Kirksville, Mo., Tommy F. Thompson II (wife Gwen) of Jefferson City, Mo. and Shawn Thompson (wife Melanie) of Jefferson City, Mo.; five grandchildren, Claire Sexton, Grace Sexton, Trey Thompson, Madison Thompson and Emily Thompson; nephew, Chris Mehrle (wife Carol) of Caruthersville, Mo; and niece, Susan Ryan (husband John) of Madison, Mississippi.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Mehrle; and an infant brother, William Thompson.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary in Jefferson City, Mo. from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2017.

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017 at St. Martin Catholic Church, St. Martins, Mo. with the Reverend Chris Cordes officiating. Graveside services will follow at St. Martin Catholic Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Great River Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary, Jefferson City, Mo. www.freemanmortuary.com
