South Pemiscot School Board meets

The South Pemiscot R-V School District Board of Education met in regular session Thursday, June 8. First on the agenda, the board approved to hire Causey Asphalt to construct two asphalt pads at Central Elementary and one at East Elementary, as well as pave the parking lot at Central’s cafeteria. The cost to the district will be $34,350.

Superintendent Chris Moore reported to the board that he would present a formal budget for the 2017-2018 school year in October. He requested that the district operate on the 2016-2017 budget until next year’s budget is approved. The board agreed to operate on the older budget.

Elementary principal Jason Williams and high school principal Glenn Carter asked that a few changes be made to the handbooks. The principals were granted their requests.

The board also approved to hire Jowers General Contracting to construct a new sidewalk at Central Elementary. The cost will be $11,055.

Mr. Moore presented the board with several payment options to buy a new bus for the district. After discussing, the board decided to buy a new bus over three years, with the total cost being $92,700.

Board members approved to buy 60 Chromebooks from Shelton Business Machines for a total cost of $18,480. The computer will go to the freshman class. The old ones will then be cycled out.

Phoenix Photography of Kennett, Mo., was chosen by the board to take the school’s extracurricular activities pictures. Also, the board approved a certified salary schedule for 2017-2018.

The last item under regular business was to change the date of the July meeting. The board chose to have the meeting Tuesday, July 11.
