Ferrell Joe Stewart

Ferrell Joe Stewart, 68, of Cooter, Mo., passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2017, in Cooter. He was born Sept. 7, 1948, to the late James C. Stewart and Mary Louise Sanders Stewart in Steele. He was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Frey on April 8, 1970. He started his career in law enforcement in 1987 with the Steele Police Department. In 1994, he went to work for the Cooter Police Department, where he was Chief of Police until his retirement in 2010.

Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, James C. Stewart and Mary Louise Sanders Stewart; one sister, Marilyn Winchester, and one brother, Jim Stewart.

Survivors of Mr. Stewart include his wife, Ruth Ann Stewart of Cooter; two sons, Joe Stewart of Steele and Landon Stewart and Prisda of Steele; two daughters, Ashley Stewart and David Mathis of Cooter and Teressa Ifft and David of Highland, Ill.; two sisters, Becky Shuburte and Billy of Nixa, Mo., and Alice Watson and Jim of Jonesboro, Ark.; eight grandchildren, Brittany Ann Bardill and Jeremy, Kailey Ifft and Jake Corley, Chase Ifft, Tanner Ifft, Jayden Stewart, Jaxson Mathis, Jana Claire Mathis and Hayley Mathis; two great-grandchildren, Ellie and Wade Joesph Bardill, and a special friend, Bryce Scott of Steele.

Funeral services for Mr. Stewart were held at 12 noon Saturday, May 27 at Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Dave Lewelling officiating. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Pallbearers were the Kennett Police Honor Guard.
