Iona Wenzola Nadine McTernan departed this life at Southgate Living Center in Caruthersville, Missouri on Monday, May 1, 2017 at the age of 84.

She was born May 7, 1932 in Canalou, Missouri to the late Clarence Butler and Callie Williams Butler.

She attended schools in Morehouse, Missouri and was a member of the 1949 High School Graduating Class.

On December 30, 1956 in Sikeston, Missouri she was united in marriage to Mr. Garlan McTernan.

Prior to her retirement she was employed as a Secretary with the Tipton Box Company and Earl Bullington Farm Services.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was active in the Women’s Missionary Union, Business and Professional Women (B &PW), Relay for Life and Girl Scouts of America.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Earnestine Marion and Naomi Vaughn along with three brothers, Billy Butler, Leonard Butler, and Rayburn Butler.

She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Garlan McTernan of Caruthersville, MO, three daughters, Wenlan (William) Reno, Roblyn (Jeffrey) Melton of Farmington, MO, and Terri Ann (Denny) Callen of Caruthersville, MO, eight grandchildren, Erica Prater, Lara Knowlan, Chris Callen, Drayton Callen, Dexter Callen, Todd Hatch, Tiffany Drumright, and Allison Hatch, twelve great-grandchildren, Brayden Prater, Chase Knowlan, Will Garrett Knowlan, Addalyn Drumright, Logan Fisher, Olivia Drumright, Braxton Hatch, Michaela Saxbury, MaKenna Callen, Paisley Callen, Bentley Callen, and Ainsley Callen, one sister, Betty Annabelle Ditto of Silvis, IL, one brother, Gaylon Butler, of Sikeston, MO, and a number of other relatives and many, many friends.

Funeral services were held on Friday, May 5 at 2:00 p.m. in the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville, MO with Pastor Jimmy Lemonds officiating. Interment took place in Maple Cemetery in Caruthersville. Pallbearers were Denny Callen, William Reno, Jeffrey Melton, Chris Callen, Scott Foster and Todd Hatch. Mr. Earl Bullington served as Honorary Pallbearer.

The H.S. Smith Funeral Home was in charge of services.
