Joyce Ann Short

Joyce Ann Short departed this life on May 7, 2017 at the age of 72.

She was born May 10, 1944 in Dyersburg, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Robert Moody Wright and Gladys Adaline Johnson Wright. Her stepmother, Nora Virginia Meachum Wright, helped raise her.

On May 13, 1961 in Newbern, Tennessee, she was united in marriage to Clyde Short. He preceded her in death on December 8, 2016.

Joyce had many hobbies. She loved to play the game of Yahtzee and other card games. She was a faithful watcher of the Young and the Restless for many, many years. She enjoyed listening to country music. The most important things in her life revolved around her family and her dog, Snuggles. She and Clyde hosted many family gatherings that included her kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and her extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Robert Wright, Jerry Burr, and Moody Kieth Wright, two sisters, Barbara Rushing and Debbie Wright, and a great-granddaughter, Abbigayle Hall.

She is survived by one son, Dennis Short and his wife, Dewona of Caruthersville, MO, two daughters, Penny Cook of Hayti, MO and Linda Miller of Southaven, MS, one brother, Larry Wright, four sisters, Sharon Hamil and her husband, Ray, Shirley Burr, Melinda Proctor, and Janet Hunt, grandchildren, Chris and Stefani Short, Kristi Altice, Whitney Duffy, Brandy Thomas, Jacob Myers, Stephen Cunningham, Joy Short, Charlie and Gabrielle Cook, Amber Short, and Cameron Short, and great-grandchildren, Brooke, Evan, Chloe, Caden, Rylan, Slayde, Ariyell, Shaun, Preston, and Jayston.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville, Missouri with Pastor Danny Neal officiating. The interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele, Missouri. Pallbearers were Christopher Short, Jake Myers, Stephen Cunningham, Charley Cook, Cody Dudley, and Ricky Burr.

The H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville was in charge of the services.
