ALFRED HARRIS

Alfred Harris, Jr. was born June 6, 1955 in Miami, Florida to Albert Sr. and Grace Malone Harris. He was the oldest of two. He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. He was a long-time faithful member of 12th Street Missionary Baptist Church, where he was an active deacon under the leadership of Reverend Joshua Black. Alfred Harris was the jack of all trades. He worked for Mays Trucking, River Ready Mix, etc. for years until he started his own trucking business called Big “Al’s” Trucking. Alfred Harris, aka Bubba, Re-Run, Big Al, was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, who did a lot for numerous communities. But, he really took care of his hometown, Caruthersville. He kept people smiling. He always had a joke or two for you.

On August 19, 1978, he married the love of his life, his best friend, the mother of his five children, his wife of 41 years Ada May (Ricks) Harris, whom he loved and cherished. Alfred Harris Jr. departed his life on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017 at 3 a.m at NHC Nursing Home in Kennett, Missouri, where the staff really loved him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Harris, Sr., mother, Grace Malone Harris, a brother, A.L. Harris, grandmother, Nora Mariah Harris, and grandfather, Corbet Harris.

Alfred leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Ada May Harris of Caruthersville, MO, four daughters, and a son, Seprina (David) Hall III of Dyersburg, TN, Alfred Harris, III of Caruthersville, MO, Regina M. Harris of Caruthersville, MO, Sheila (Joe) Travis, Jr. of Dyersburg, TN, and Reshawnda Lashay (aka “Lil Bit”) Harris of Caruthersville, MO, a sister, Rhonda Kay Woods Payne of St. Louis, MO, four sisters-in-law, Rozella (Porter) Malone, Lonnie Louis Ricks, Laura Mae (David) Gray all of Caruthersville, MO, and Tricia Ann Ricks of Peoria, IL, five brothers-in-law, Dannie Ricks, and Billy Joe Ricks, both of Caruthersville, MO, Willie Lee Ricks and Bobby L. Ricks, both of Peoria, IL, and Oma Ricks of Michigan, 13 grandchildren, 2 special cousins, Glen Harris of Cordova, TN, and James Harris of St. Louis, MO, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other friends.

Home going celebration was held Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the 12th Street Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Joshua Black officiating. Interment followed in Morgan Ridge Cemetery.

Pallbearers were James Hunter, Marcus Russell, Myron Middleton, Steven Rodgers, Shawndrae Isable, Jacob Wiley. Honorary pallbearers were Alfred Harris, III, Alfonzo Jordan, Jr., David Hall, III and Joe Travis, Jr.
