Community egg hunt held

Young and old, big and small were in attendance at the Annual John Buchanan Community Egg Hunt. The hunt, which began several years ago, has grown tremendously through the years. Caruthersville resident John Buchanan, creator and organizer of the event, along with numerous volunteers work hard each and every year to bring joy to area children during this special event. This year more than 400 children attended the event.

Caruthersville Public Library was a great help in the organizing this year as they distributed and collected registration forms for the children to help determine how many baskets would be needed.

This year, families arrived at French Park in Caruthersville to find bicycles of every size lined up along with big Easter baskets stuffed with lots of goodies. Kids enjoyed the beautiful spring day of sunshine and cool breezes as volunteers worked to hide the last of the eggs so the Easter Bunny could spend his time visiting with the kids.

Ben Baker and his crew were in their traditional spot, firing up the grill to prepare delicious hot dogs that were served for free. It didn’t take long for the kids to set out on their search with special sections set up for each age group.

While the Buchanan, the Easter Bunny and the many volunteers left worn and weary, kids were beaming as they rode out with their arms full of goodies, some riding their newly won bicycles.

Buchanan would like to thank everyone for their continued support of this outstanding event, but reminds everyone that as the event continues to grow, so will the need for more donations and volunteers. Plans are already in the works for next years great event.
